Use this USMC PFT calculator to calculate your Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test score from pull-ups or push-ups, plank time, and your three-mile run time. Select the correct age group and scoring category before entering your results. A standard PFT must reach at least 150 points and meet the minimum in every event. Beginning January 1, 2026, Marines in designated combat arms PMOSs must meet a 210-point sex-neutral standard scored on the male age-normed tables. MCO 6100.13A with Administrative Change 5 and MARADMIN 613/25 provide the governing references.
This Marine PFT calculator is a planning tool, not an official Marine Corps record. Your unit, grader, and Marine Corps Training Information Management System determine the official result. Use the calculator to check practice fitness test scores, identify the event limiting your total, and set a realistic target before your next assessment.
This page explains the current USMC physical fitness scoring system and the inputs the calculator can measure.
If you are comparing service tests, do not combine this USMC PFT score with an Army result. Use the Army AFT calculator for the Army’s current five-event test. The Marine Corps Combat Fitness Test is a separate assessment; use the USMC CFT calculator for it. Soldiers who need the Army’s Combat Field Test can use the Army CFT calculator.
How To Use The USMC PFT Calculator
- Choose the age group used on test day. The Marine Corps uses eight age brackets: 17-20, 21-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40, 41-45, 46-50, and 51+.
- Choose the applicable scoring category. Non-combat-arms Marines use the current age-and-gender tables. Marines in a designated combat arms PMOS use the 2026 sex-neutral option and the male age-normed scoring tables.
- Select one upper-body event. Choose pull-ups or push-ups before the event. The calculator cannot combine the two events into one score.
- Enter the plank duration. Enter minutes and seconds, not a decimal minute value.
- Enter the run time or an authorized alternative. Use minutes and seconds for the three-mile run. If your test administrator authorizes the 5,000-meter row, use the applicable row option and current table.
- Review the event scores before the total. A high total does not repair a failed event minimum. Check the lowest event score and the standard used before treating the result as a pass.
For a timed event, enter 23:45 for 23 minutes and 45 seconds. Do not enter 23.45; decimal minutes represent a different time. Enter repetitions as whole numbers and check that the selected age group matches the Marine’s age on the date of testing.
What Are The Three USMC PFT Events?
The Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test consists of three events: one upper-body event, the plank, and a three-mile run or an authorized rowing alternative. The PFT measures upper-body strength and endurance, trunk stability, and cardiovascular endurance. The full execution rules and scoring tables are maintained in the official MCO 6100.13A publication.
Pull-Ups Or Push-Ups
Every Marine chooses either dead-hang pull-ups or push-ups. The choice is made before the event, and the scores cannot be combined. Pull-ups can earn up to 100 points. Push-ups can earn up to 70 points, so a perfect 300-point PFT is only possible when the pull-up event is selected and the other two events also receive maximum scores.
A valid pull-up begins from a dead hang and finishes with the chin clearing the bar, without using excess motion to create momentum. Pull-ups are not normally limited by a two-minute clock. Push-ups are performed for two minutes under the prescribed form and cadence. The official grader’s standards control whether a rep counts; an online calculator only converts accepted results into points.
Plank
The plank is the current midsection event for the PFT. The published scoring table uses the same scale for every Marine: 1:10 is the minimum duration for 40 points and 3:45 earns the maximum 100 points. The plank replaced the abdominal crunch event; an old crunch chart should not be used for a current Marine PFT score.
Hold the required position continuously and enter the time recorded by the grader. If your notes show a crunch result from an older test, keep it as historical information rather than entering it into a current PFT calculator.
Three-Mile Run Or Authorized Row
The three-mile run is scored by completion time. Faster times receive more points, and the applicable table depends on the Marine’s age group and scoring category. Enter the run time in MM:SS format. The run must be measured over the required distance; a treadmill estimate or an unmeasured route is not automatically equivalent to an official result.
Marines age 46 and older may use the 5,000-meter row alternative under the applicable rules. Other row or run alternatives may require medical or command authorization. The calculator can estimate a row result only when the correct alternative and current table are selected; it cannot grant authorization.
USMC PFT Scoring Standards And Passing Requirements
Each event is converted through a lookup table and the three event scores are added for a maximum of 300 points:
PFT score = upper-body points + plank points + run or row points.
The event is scored from the published performance table for the selected age group and category. Do not assume that one extra rep or one extra second always equals one point. When a table uses performance steps, the calculator should use the listed value that the result actually meets rather than inventing an interpolation between rows.
Standard PFT: 150 Points And Event Minimums
For the standard age-and-gender PFT, a Marine must meet both conditions:
- Reach at least 150 total points.
- Meet the published minimum in every event.
Missing the minimum in one event can fail the PFT even when the combined total is above 150. The minimum event score can differ by event and category, so check the selected table rather than applying one universal rep or time threshold to every Marine.
PFT Class Scores
The standard classification ranges are the same total-score bands across the age groups:
| Classification | Total score | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1st Class | 235-300 | First-class PFT score range after all event minimums are met |
| 2nd Class | 200-234 | Second-class PFT score range after all event minimums are met |
| 3rd Class | 150-199 | Passing third-class range after all event minimums are met |
A class label does not override an event failure. A 230-point total with one event below its minimum is not a passing PFT, even though 230 falls inside the 2nd class range.
2026 Combat-Arms Standard: 210 Points
Effective January 1, 2026, Marines in designated combat arms PMOSs are scored on the male age-normed tables regardless of gender and must reach at least 210 points on the PFT. This is the sex-neutral standard announced in MARADMIN 613/25, dated December 18, 2025.
The combat arms list includes specified infantry, reconnaissance, artillery, combat engineer, assault amphibious, explosive ordnance disposal, and Marine Raider PMOSs. It is not a general “combat job” checkbox. Verify the Marine’s exact PMOS and the current administrative guidance before selecting combat arms scoring. Marines in combat arms must still meet the applicable minimum in every event; reaching 210 alone is not a substitute for an event minimum.
Under paragraph 4.c of the message, a combat arms Marine who passes the PFT but does not reach 210 points by the end of the reporting period is placed on the remedial physical training program and may be subject to PMOS reclassification or promotion restriction. The same paragraph states that, until further guidance is published, no adverse or punitive actions are administered.
Under paragraph 4.e, units verbally inform combat arms Marines of the sex-neutral event minimums and the 210-point requirement before the PFT. Until the information systems are updated, units also compute combat arms scores by hand, record them on a NAVMC 11622 in addition to MCTIMS, and keep those forms locally.

PFT Standards By Age And Gender
PFT standards are age-normed. The eight age groups are 17-20, 21-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40, 41-45, 46-50, and 51+. The upper-body and run tables use the selected age group and gender for the standard category. The plank table is shared across ages and genders.
PFT Score Chart Example: Age Group 21-25
The following is a compact example from the published scoring tables. Each pair shows the maximum-score performance and the minimum passing performance for that event.
| Event | Male table: maximum / minimum | Female table: maximum / minimum |
|---|---|---|
| Pull-ups | 23 / 5 repetitions | 11 / 3 repetitions |
| Push-ups | 87 / 40 repetitions | 48 / 18 repetitions |
| 3-mile run | 18:00 / 27:40 | 21:00 / 30:50 |
| Plank | 3:45 / 1:10 | 3:45 / 1:10 |
PFT Standards By Age: Men
Each cell shows the maximum-score performance, then the minimum passing performance. Combat arms Marines use this table regardless of gender.

PFT Plank Standard (All Marines)
The plank uses one scale for every Marine: 3:45 earns the maximum 100 points, and 1:10 earns the minimum 40 points.
These tables show the maximum and minimum performances only. Use them as a quick reference, not as a substitute for the full scoring tables in MCO 6100.13A. The correct table can change the points awarded for the same performance when the age group or combat arms category changes.
How To Calculate Your PFT Score
To calculate a PFT score, convert each accepted performance through the correct table and add the three event values. The calculator should show the event points separately so you can see whether a low pull-up, push-up, plank, or run score is reducing the total.
These examples are hypothetical:
| Example | Event points | Total | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Balanced passing result | 70 + 45 + 60 | 175 | 3rd class if all event minimums are met |
| First-class result | 85 + 80 + 80 | 245 | 1st class if all event minimums are met |
| High total with a failed event | 35 + 100 + 100 | 235 | Fails if the 35-point event is below its required minimum |
| Combat-arms threshold example | 70 + 70 + 70 | 210 | Meets the total requirement if every event minimum is also met |
The examples show why the total score and event result must be read together. A PFT score calculator should identify both the total and the event that needs work, not display only one pass/fail color.
PFT And CFT: What Is The Difference?
The PFT and CFT are separate Marine Corps assessments with different events and purposes. The PFT is normally conducted during the January 1 through June 30 period. The Combat Fitness Test is normally conducted during the July 1 through December 31 period. CFT points do not add to the PFT total, and a PFT pass does not automatically establish a CFT pass.
The Marine Corps CFT uses Movement to Contact, Ammunition Lifts, and Maneuver Under Fire. If you need the separate score, use the USMC CFT calculator rather than adding CFT event points to the three PFT events. If you need the Army’s current five-event test instead, use the Army AFT calculator; the Army AFT and the Marine Corps PFT are not interchangeable.
Altitude, Row Alternatives, And Special Cases
PFT Altitude Standards
The Marine Corps publishes a separate altitude compensation table for the three-mile run at or above 4,500 feet mean sea level. This is an official PFT altitude adjustment, not a universal number of extra minutes that can be added to any result. Use the official PFT altitude run standards and confirm the testing location and procedure with the unit.
Row, Recruit, And Officer-Candidate Rules
This general calculator is intended for the regular Marine Corps PFT scoring system. Recruit PFT standards, Marine recruit score goals, Officer Candidates School requirements, and other selection programs can impose additional event minimums or aggregate targets. An officer candidate PFT calculator should not be treated as an official OCS screening tool unless it is built from the current program message. Always verify special-program rules before using an online estimate for a selection decision.
Common PFT Calculation Mistakes
- Using the wrong service. A Marine Corps PFT is not the Army AFT, Army CFT, Navy PRT, or another branch’s physical fitness test.
- Selecting the wrong age group. Use the age group on the date of testing, not the age when you began training.
- Mixing pull-ups and push-ups. Select one upper-body event; the calculator cannot award points for both.
- Entering decimal time. A 27:40 run typed as 27.40 is read as 27 minutes and 24 seconds.
- Using the old crunch event. The current PFT uses the plank; historical crunch scores belong to older test versions.
- Ignoring event minimums. A 245-point total still fails if one event is below its minimum.
- Using combat arms scoring without the PMOS. The 2026 sex-neutral rule applies to the 32 listed combat arms PMOSs, not every Marine who works in a field environment.
- Treating an estimate as an official record. Only authorized Marine Corps administration and the official record system can establish the result of record.
Frequently Asked Questions
The standard minimum passing PFT score is 150 points, and the Marine must also meet the minimum in every event. A 150-point total with a failed event does not pass. Marines in designated combat arms PMOSs must meet the 2026 sex-neutral 210-point standard in addition to the event requirements.
There is no single “good” score for every goal. A score of 235 or higher falls in the 1st class range, while 200-234 is 2nd class and 150-199 is 3rd class. Promotion, school, and command goals can use different targets, so compare your fitness test scores with the requirement that actually applies to you.
A perfect PFT score is 300 points. Pull-ups and the three-mile run can each earn up to 100 points, the plank can earn 100 points, and push-ups top out at 70 points. Because push-ups cannot produce 100 points, the maximum 300-point score requires the pull-up option.
The minimum and maximum depend on the age group and scoring category. For example, the 17-20 male table lists 4 pull-ups as the minimum and 20 as the maximum, while the 21-25 male table lists 5 as the minimum and 23 as the maximum. The female table also changes by age group. Use the full current chart rather than applying one number to every Marine.
Yes. A Marine may choose pull-ups or push-ups for the upper-body event, but the two results are not combined. Pull-ups have the higher scoring ceiling, while push-ups may be the more appropriate choice for a Marine who cannot perform the required pull-up movement. Form and the official event rules still apply.
The current plank table applies the same time scale to all Marines. A 1:10 plank reaches the minimum 40-point level, and a 3:45 plank reaches 100 points. The plank replaced crunches in the current PFT event structure.
The run standard depends on age, gender, and the applicable combat arms category. As an example, the 21-25 table lists 18:00 for maximum male run points and 27:40 as the slowest passing performance; the female row lists 21:00 and 30:50. Other age brackets have different values, and altitude tables may apply at or above 4,500 feet.
Beginning January 1, 2026, designated Marines in combat arms PMOSs use sex-neutral, male age-normed scoring and must reach 210 points. Non-combat-arms Marines continue to use the applicable age-and-gender scoring standard. The implementation and administrative details are in the current MARADMIN; always verify the latest update before an official test.
The PFT measures general physical fitness with an upper-body event, plank, and three-mile run or authorized row. The CFT is a separate combat fitness test with Movement to Contact, Ammunition Lifts, and Maneuver Under Fire. Each test has its own scoring tables, testing period, and pass requirements.
No. This is an online reference calculator built from the published scoring tables from MCO 6100.13A and current administrative updates. It does not replace the official Marine Corps score of record, a grader’s decision, MCTIMS, or command guidance. Always verify the current official USMC standard before relying on a result for promotion, school, reenlistment, or another administrative decision.
Use it to understand the regular PFT scoring system, but do not assume it answers every recruit or officer-candidate requirement. Recruit and OCS programs can publish separate entry, graduation, or selection standards. Confirm the applicable message and test administrator’s instructions.
No. PFT scoring and body-composition evaluation are separate processes. Since January 1, 2026, the Marine Corps screens body composition with a waist-to-height ratio, measured at the navel, with a standard of 0.52 for both sexes (MARADMIN 066/26, signed February 26, 2026; the maximum waist for each height is listed in that message). A Marine who exceeds the ratio moves to a body fat evaluation. Marines who score 285 or higher on both the PFT and CFT may be allowed up to 26 percent body fat (men) or 36 percent (women), so a high fitness score affects the body fat step but does not remove the screening. MARADMIN 073/26 updates the waist-to-height guidance, and MARADMIN 358/26 covers recording body composition data in MCTIMS. Check the current messages and your unit’s procedures.
Enter your measured results, review the event with the lowest score, and choose one specific improvement to target before your next PFT.
